How to Make Blue Eyes Pop

When choosing the appropriate shades for your eye colour it’s best to consult a colour wheel like the one below. The colours opposite your eye colour will work best to enhance it.
For blue eyes, you should aim to use mainly orange and browns colours with red or yellow undertones.
If you are feeling brave, there’s nothing to stop you trying maroon, blue or navy shades. Just be aware that some blues can wash out your eye colour rather than enhance it.

I have included three looks and how to recreate them with Coastal Scents, Mac and Urban Decay shades. Don’t feel under pressure to use the shades I mention. Work with what suits you and what you own, the tables are just guidelines.

Earthy Neutrals Combo

The traditional smokey brown look is a classic option. For the less adventurous it’s a safe look without being bland or boring. It is also the perfect look to transition from day to night.
Tip: Add some sparkle with a metallic bronze or silver to dress it up.

Gold-Orange-Rust Combo

This is a gorgeous twist on the traditional neutral shades. While it is not exactly bold, there’s just enough fire in it to add some ‘oomph’ to your look. This wearable, rich look works well for any season.
Tip: If you want to go bolder just add a hint of red to intensify the deeper shades.

Silver-Blue-Navy Combo

If you are looking for something a little bolder, this silver and navy look is perfect for a night out. This can be as sultry and intense as you like but it’s very easy to tone down with a more powdery blue and silver combination for daytime wear.

For a more subtle look, try a navy, bronze or gold eyeliner for a simple but effective pop of colour. You can even try navy mascara with white or silver eyeliner to subtly set those blues off. Physicians Formula have an eyeliner set specifically for blue eyes.

Make the Most of Your Eyes

Don’t forget that different shades of blue will work better with certain shades then others. Neutral shades are your safest bet as brown shades work with all eye colours.
Deep-blue eyes work best with orange, copper and rust shades as well as deeper blues, violets and purples.
Grey-blue eyes need metallic, sheer pinks, greys and black shades so as not to wash out their natural colour.
Green-blue eyes suit berry coloured shades (burgundy, cranberry, violet) as well as gold metallic shades.
